Visit to the Sun Menlo Park Campus

During a recent visit to the Sun Menlo Park Campus, I was in the area just as Will (my boss) & a few of my favorite colleagues were ogling a shiny new Sun M5000 Server before it made it’s way into the development lab. This one will be used for a big sun.com related project.

For those of you who don’t know Will, he’s *crazy* about hardware. Being in the area of the development lab while he was around earned me a fresh tour. I’m a web application Program Manager, so truth be told, I didn’t understand much of it, but he’s so passionate about this topic that it’s hard not to enjoy one of his tours.

I didn’t get a picture of his office, but there’s always some dissected hardware parts that he’ll eagerly strike up a conversation about…any guesses on what this is taped to his office door? Hint: the blue part is plastic.

if its plastic, thats not the important part of it. there’s a capacitive sensing grid embedded in the thing.

What Rama says is true. I’ll add that the blue part goes over the other part & chances are you’ve spent a fair # of hours touching the blue part.

    I’ll guess a track pad.

Kevin, if by track pad you mean that mouse pad thingie on laptops and the metal bar thingie beneath it, you would be correct. If that’s not what you mean, please guess again.

Yes! But I was going to guess something more personal based on your hint.
