The tag cloud has been neutered. I repeat. The tag cloud has been neutered.

For those not in the loop, we deployed a new blogs.sun.com front page late yesterday. The big changes were the addition of a tag cloud and a “New Sun Bloggers” element.

Overall, we received an expected mixed review, but one bit of feedback was clear…the tag cloud was ginormous*. So it was limited from 100 tags to 50 and the intensity of the tag sizes was decreased slightly.

There are a few other suggestions that were offered and they too are being evaluated.

* Yes, it’s now in the dictionary.

No didn’t like the new blogs.sun.com. Its too cluttered. The Tag section looks more like a giant ad-billboard.

I like the new version quite well, now that the "See all" has been improved. The one thing I am missing is a way to tell this page that I can only read french and english, so it should not show me blogs in german or some asian language (I don’t even know enough to tell if it is chinese or japanese…).

    Hi Linda,
I would say reduce the spacing between the words a bit and also the line height. Furthermore consider to use different colors (shades of blue) to emphasize the tag’s weight even more.
    cheers

    Hi Linda,
make it 60 tags on the main tag cloud to nearly fill the 4th line on average browser settings.
    best,
    Matthias

Thanks Linda, for changing it to 58. A subtle but significant change.
