Empty nesting…kind of

My daughter left for outdoor ed today and although she’ll only be gone for 2.5 days, I’m feeling unusually anxious about it. The invisible blog audience might ask “Why, what’s the big honkin’ deal?” Well, for the first time in her life, I can’t connect with her via phone, email, IM, etc.

They say absence makes the heart grow fonder. That’s total crap…her absence is making me nuts. I may just need to take a two hour drive to the outdoor ed site to “test the rack in pinion steering in the family truckster” again.

2.5 days? Our outdoor ed program is 5 days long, and is in 5th grade. There were quite a few anxious parents when my kids attended. My wife was amused by the pre-program “Q&A” session. Yes, there would be a nurse present at all times. No, kids did not need to bring their own TP. What you probably don’t realize is that this program is meant to teach parents how to be independent from their children!

If you do decide to “take a testdrive”, you better not let your daughter (and her friends) see you. That would be major embarrassment. She might disown you, at least for another 2.5 days…

PS: Is there any rule about comments being longer than the original blog entries?

Alan, OE previously ran 5 days here as well, but it was shorted because of $, increase in # of students, and co-dependent parents. 😉
