Today is the day NASCAR fans have been waiting for: the movie premier of “Talledega Nights“. I don’t at all expect to walk away from the theater thinking “That was the best movie ever!” but, I suspect it’ll be as entertaining as movies along the lines of Napolean Dynamite, Dumb and Dumber, etc.
Unlike the movie is likely to portray, it’s not all about Winnabego’s and guys like this (fellow spectator at the Phoenix race in April):
NASCAR fans are one big happy family (even if they like a driver the other might hate), but you do have to pick a favorite driver and stick with them for two reasons:
1. Driver loyalty seems to be the #1 NASCAR fan rule. Take Roger for instance (our friend who introduced us to Colorado Nat’l Speedway & got me a trophy girl gig one night at the races –I’d post a picture here but the photograph was an up-shot due to the pitch of the racetrack & I looked far more bootie-licious than I really am), — anyway, back to Roger & his driver loyalty. You see, Roger will stick with his driver despite his questionable driving ethics and pansy off-track shenanagins. Plus, switching drivers would cost Roger a fortune in wardrobe and home decor replacement.
2.If you don’t have a favorite driver, you won’t have anyone to root for during a race — what fun would that be?
Quick side note: My favorite driver is Kasey Kahne — not just because he’s cute and wholesome, but he’s a talented driver with an incredible pit crew. I just wish he’d show more fire-in-the-belly — much like the maniacal, but highly skilled Tony Stewart.
In preparation for the movie, I acquired my racing name from the movie site:
